The Fiscal Research Center hosted a 2018 legislative recap on June 7. Experts at the event discussed tax-related bills that passed, as well as a few noteworthy bills that did not pass.
Among other tax changes, the event highlighted the “economic nexus” bill (HB 61), passed to better position the state to collect taxes owed on online sales. (On June 21, the Supreme Court issued an opinion on a similar law in South Dakota.)
The presentation also highlighted Georgia’s conformity to the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The state legislature passed HB 918 to address the changes.
Presenters:
• Robert Buschman, senior research associate, who leads the FRC team that scores revenue bills for the General Assembly
